Winnezele is a municipality in the French Westhoek, in the French department of Nord. The municipality is located in French Flanders in the Houtland region. Winnezele borders the municipalities of Herzele, Houtkerke, Oudezele, Watou, and Steenvoorde. The municipality has over 1,200 inhabitants. The first mention of the village was as Winningasela and was noted in a letter from Pope Calixtus II in 1119, which acknowledged the possessions of the Abbey of Broekburg. The name is a combination of a personal name and the suffix -sala.
