I have raced through the Jura several times to reach the heart of the Alps or the 'real' south of France as quickly as possible. Many motorcyclists have a few days in the Vosges on their record. But nestled right in between is a real gem near the Swiss border: Franche-Comté. I’m planning a trip in the well-known department of Jura, but on the advice of local experts, I will also include a bit of Doubs, the less popular neighbor.

This route takes you past:

• Grande Saline de Salins-les-Bains (salt production museum)
• Domaine Ratte (biodynamic wines)
• Maison du Comté (cheese museum)
• Saint-Claude - Musée de l'Abbaye (abbey)
• La Saline Royale (former saltworks)
