Die Pauluskirche wurde im 16. Jahrhundert von Dom Bartolomeu dos Mártirs für die Gesellschaft Jesu im Priesterseminar von Santiago erbaut .
Die Kirche ist Teil des Gebäudes, in dem sich das Pius-XII.-Museum befindet.
Die Fassade ist eher schlicht und streng und wird von einem dreieckigen Giebel mit einem runden Fenster gekrönt. Die Kirche hat eine einzige Eingangstür, die an den Seiten von Säulen eingerahmt ist, und darüber einen Giebel. Es wurde von André Soares entworfen. Im Gegensatz zur Fassade ist das Innere beeindruckend und gilt als die beste Sammlung barocker Kunst der Stadt während der Herrschaft von João Pedro II. und V.
Es besteht aus einem einzigen Kirchenschiff mit einem sehr breiten Chor. Es sind mehrere Werke ausgestellt, das wichtigste davon stammt von Tom Araújo . Es gibt auch Statuen der vier Evangelisten (Werk von António Pinto Araújo).
