Just after World War I, the Belgians made another attempt to annex Zeeuws-Vlaanderen to Belgium. This took place during the negotiations of the "victors of World War I" at the Quai d'Orsay (Paris) in 1919. They wanted to annex both Zeeuws-Vlaanderen and Dutch Limburg. "Both areas historically, linguistically, and culturally belong to Flanders," was the argument. It was simply a historical mistake from the past that needed to be rectified, they believed on the Belgian side. But that "party" did not take place...
