Il Municipio di Veurne ha svolto un ruolo importante all'inizio della Prima Guerra Mondiale. Il re Alberto I aveva il suo gabinetto di lavoro nella sala superiore. Qui sono stati discussi i piani per l’allagamento della pianura di Yser con Karel Cogge. Anche il Comando Generale dell'esercito belga ha avuto qui il suo quartier generale per alcuni mesi. Nella Sala Alberto del Municipio potrai vedere, in occasione del 100° anniversario della Grande Guerra, un docudrama sulla storia della Grande Guerra a Veurne.
