In het Museum of St. Andrews zijn figuren als astronoom James Gregory en wiskundige John Napier te zien. James Gregory beschreef een vroeg praktisch ontwerp voor de reflecterende telescoop – de Gregoriaanse telescoop – en boekte vooruitgang in de trigonometrie, waarbij hij oneindige reeksrepresentaties ontdekte voor verschillende trigonometrische functies. is vooral bekend als de ontdekker van logaritmen . Hij vond ook de zogenaamde " Napier's botten " uit en maakte het gebruik van de komma in de rekenkunde en wiskunde algemeen.
