Der Brügger Gelehrte und Erfinder Simon Stevin führte im 16. Jahrhundert seine berühmten Fallversuche am Turm von Delft durch, mit denen er bewies, dass schwere und leichte Objekte gleich schnell fallen. Dies steht im Gegensatz zu dem, was Aristoteles einst behauptete und was damals allgemein akzeptiert wurde. Später würde Galilei das Experiment am berühmten Schiefen Turm von Pisa wiederholen. Galilei wurde dafür berühmt. Wenige wissen, dass es bereits zuvor von Simon Stevin durchgeführt wurde.
