Il sapiente e inventore fiammingo Simon Stevin effettuò le sue famose prove di caduta sulla torre di Delft nel XVI secolo, dimostrando che oggetti più pesanti e leggeri cadono alla stessa velocità. Questo contrariamente a quanto affermava Aristotele e che all'epoca era accettato. In seguito, Galilei ripeté l'esperimento sulla famosa torre di Pisa. Galilei divenne famoso per questo. Pochi sanno che era stato fatto in precedenza da Simon Stevin.
