Het molenkanaal, dat van Vieux-Thann naar Wittelsheim loopt, bestaat al sinds de middeleeuwen, maar werd pas in 1854 aangelegd en beheerd door de molenaarsbond.
In de 19e eeuw exploiteerde het een dozijn molens en leverde het de hydraulische kracht die nodig was voor de werking van het ambacht: meelmolens, oliemolens, papiermolens, enz., evenals de textiel- en mechanische industrie van Cernay en Uffholtz (een naburig dorp op 2 km afstand).
Dit is het hoofdthema van de rondleiding "In de voetsporen van het verleden van de industrie van Cernay - langs het fabriekskanaal" die u onderdompelt in een ander tijdperk en Cernay onthult zoals u het zich nooit had voorgesteld!
