Het fort werd gebouwd in 1907-1908 en lag al in 1914 zwaar onder Duits vuur. Op 3 oktober 1914 werd het fort door de Duitsers ingenomen. In 1939-1940 werd er een antitankbeveiliging aangebracht en werd het fort onderdeel van de nieuwe Koningshooikt-Waver-linie (KW-linie).
In het fort hebben heel wat vleermuizen hun thuis gevonden. De meest voorkomende soorten zijn de ingekorven vleermuis, de meervleermuis, de watervleermuis, de franjestaart, de Brandt vleermuis en de baardvleermuis. Het domein is een Europese Speciale Beschermingszone.
