Sobre les porxades que uneixen la Praça de St. Tiago amb el Llarg da Oliveira es troba l'Antic Ajuntament.
Aquest edifici albergava els homes que governaven la ciutat. La seva construcció es va iniciar al segle XIV i es va prolongar fins a mitjans del segle XV, quan regnava D. Afonso V. Entre els segles XVI i XVIII, l'edifici va patir diverses reformes i renovacions. Més tard, el 1877, es va col·locar a la façana una estàtua d'un guerrer procedent de l'antic edifici de la duana. Segons la tradició, aquest guerrer simbolitza la doble contribució del poble de Guimarães a les conquestes d'Àfrica.
