Cuando llegas, ya puedes ver desde lejos el molino de viento de 1841 y la iglesia neerlandesa reformada de 1612. La original IJzendijke [Iezendieke] en West-Zeeuws-Vlaanderen fue consumida por el mar hace más de quinientos años. Gracias al duque español de Parma, el lugar resurgió, a unos kilómetros más adelante, en forma de una fortaleza defensiva.
Príncipe Maurits
En 1604, durante la Guerra de los Ochenta Años, el Príncipe Maurits expulsó a los españoles de 'su' fortaleza Ysendijck y de inmediato ordenó la restauración de las obras defensivas. Hoy en día, puedes encontrar al Príncipe Maurits en la encantadora Plaza, sentado detrás de un tablero de ajedrez, pensando en el siguiente movimiento estratégico.
