Le Zavelenberg à Berchem Sainte Agathe est encore un vestige du territoire rural à Bruxelles. Le terrain a conservé sa structure avec des haies, des fermetures et des arbres. La topographie einégale du Zavelenberg est due à l'exploitation de la fosse de pierre calcaire dans le Moyen Age.
Le sommet du Zavelenberg est une colline boisée. L'urbanisation rapide de Berchem Sainte Agathe et GAnshoren après la construction de l'Avenue Charles Quint a mené à une réduction importante du terrain du Zavelenberg, qui à cet époque a été coupé en deux définitivement. Maintenant, il reste encore 16 hectares. Dans les prairies du Zavelenberg paîtrent les boeufs du dernier agriculteur de Bruxelles. Le Zavelenberg est un paysage protégé depuis 1989 et une réserve naturelle depuis 1992.
Le Zavelenberg est sans doute intéressant pour son paysage, mais il a également une importance écologique. Il y a par exemple beaucoup de lièvres sur le terrain, mais aussi un grand nombre d'oiseaux et d'amphibies.
