Alnwick est une petite ville de marché dans le nord du Northumberland.
Selon Country Life, octobre 2002, "Alnwick est la ville de marché la plus pittoresque du Northumberland, et le meilleur endroit où vivre en Grande-Bretagne".
La ville remonte à environ 600 après J.-C., et au fil des siècles, elle a prospéré en tant que centre agricole ; en tant que lieu du château d'Alnwick et foyer de ce qui étaient, au Moyen Âge, les barons du nord les plus puissants, les comtes de Northumberland ; en tant qu'étape sur la Grande Route du Nord entre Édimbourg et Londres, et enfin en tant que centre rural moderne cum ville-dortoir.
