In origine la cappella faceva parte di un piccolo ospedale appartenente alla corporazione dei falegnami.
La cappella fu ricostruita alla fine del XVII secolo e ampliata a metà del XVIII secolo. All'esterno presenta due facciate, la porta del Vangelo, coronata dal rilievo delle nozze della Vergine, e la porta di fondo, arricchita con piastrelle e statue in nicchie, sormontata dalla figura di San Giuseppe, disegnata da Lucas Valdés nel 1716.
Il 12 maggio 1931, alle 4 del mattino, la cappella venne attaccata, saccheggiata e bruciata durante le rivolte sociali che seguirono la proclamazione della Seconda Repubblica.
La sontuosa decorazione interna è una delle più complesse del barocco sivigliano. La pala dell'altare maggiore, dedicata a San Giuseppe , fu costruita tra il 1762 e il 1766 ed è opera di Cayetano de Acosta.
