Qui c'è un ponte da secoli. L'architetto comunale Daniël Stalpaert disegnò già un ponte nel suo progetto di pianta del 1662, poiché era previsto durante l'espansione della città, ma non c'era ancora alcun edifico in questa zona e la costruzione del ponte non si fece per il momento. La pianta di Jacob Bosch per la quarta espansione non mostra quindi alcun ponte. Anche in un dipinto di Gerrit Berckheyde del 1685 non è visibile alcun ponte. Frederik de Wit disegnò invece un ponte con più passaggi nella sua pianta del 1688. Quando Gerrit de Broen realizzò la sua pianta nel 1737, disegnò un ponte con nove passaggi. Indicò come nome Kerk Straats o Magere Brug.
