Close to the border with the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg lies Strainchamps, a small village with a large castle that houses a gastronomic restaurant. An idea for after the hike?

We mainly know the Sûre from some picturesque passages in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, before the small river joins its big brother, the Moselle, in Wasserbillig. However, the source area near the Belgian Vaux-sur-Sûre and the small river surface on our territory also offer some beautiful pieces of nature. During the first part of this walk, you will discover unexpected views of the young Sûre. After the turning point in Bodange, pristine forests and some splendid vistas create the backdrop for this hike. The tiny village of Strainchamps, where the walk begins, even boasts a gastronomic temple. At the Chateau de Strainchamps, you can dine at Michelin star level. Bon appétit!

The route

Start at the little church of Strainchamps (V). You can park in the immediate vicinity. With your back to the church, start going downhill. Walk past the castle of Strainchamps on your right side. A little further, at the bend, by a stone cross (1), turn left. Rue du Laveu. After house number 58, the road becomes paved. Keep following this road. You will first pass signs indicating the RAVeL line 618. A little further on, turn left and immediately right. You continue to follow the RAVeL. On your right, you will occasionally see the valley of the still young Sûre. Walk past a meadow on your left and always follow the RAVeL (Martelange-Bodange). Ignore a road to the left. A little further, at traffic signs, a bench, and a trash can, turn right. Keep following the RAVeL. You are now walking right next to the Sûre. You will pass an educational board at the former location of the Bodange station. Continue straight ahead. You will quickly reach a paved road and the first houses of Bodange. At the main road turn right. Cross the Sûre via a relatively large bridge (2). After the covered Quartier de Vie and a sign ‘Martelange 5’, turn right. Chemin du Vieux Château. Ignore the first street on the right and keep following the ascending road. At house number 106, ignore the road to the left. After a short steep climb, the road becomes paved again with stones. You are now walking in the woods. Follow this paved road for a long time. Ignore all side roads. At the point where you have a view of a bend in the Sûre on the right and an open space with 2 roads on the left, turn left. Take the right road. Continue to follow this gently rising road and ignore all side roads. Just past a large clearing on the right, you reach a crossroad with a primitive barrier. Turn left for a moment and 50 m further, on the paved path, turn right. Keep following until you reach the asphalted road (3). Turn right. Follow this road to a clearing on the left side. Here, turn right. After approx. 200 m, at the fork, turn left. Follow this descending path until you reach a larger paved road. Turn left here. Walk through the hamlet ‘Le Cheslot’ (4). At the T-junction, turn right. Cross the Sûre and now turn left uphill. Follow this road until you reach the little church of Strainchamps.
