An extremely beautiful walk with quite some altimeters over the crest of the mountainous backbone of Madeira with fantastic views of the highest peaks of the island as well as into the deep ravines leading of to the southern and northern shores. Beautiful views also on Curral das Freiras (the valley of nuns). The climb to the top of Pico Ruivo, the highest peak of Madeira, is a nice and easy extra. The vegetation along this path is to die for. The section from Boca da Ecumeada to Pico Ruivo is probably the most beautiful walk in Madeira as it is void of the masses of people on other popular walks like the ones between Pico Ruivo and Pico Arieiro, the walk in Ponta de São Lorenço and the Levada das 25 Fontes.
