Mountain bike tour in Floreffe

Floreffe, a village on the banks of the Sambre and its surprising abbey... The tour offers a discovery of the surrounding nature with an incredible variety of landscapes.

The route first follows the Sambre and gives an impression of its history. Along the banks we see that the industrial era has left its mark on the landscape. Our trail follows the river and passes in front of old arms and docks where barges loaded the products of the Florefife, lime or limestone glassware.

This region of the province of Namur is quite open, dotted with hedges and vast arable land. We cycle through this charming countryside by a very pleasant road. At the top of the valley, a landscape unfolds with some typical farmhouses that defy time.

Shortly after Soye, our trail enters the forest. Then we leave the forest and return to the Sambre by bike. It is a river closely linked to inland navigation, a legacy that dates back more than 10 centuries.

On the way back, we see the abbey of Floreffe rising to an altitude along the river. The buildings have a mix of styles (Romanesque, Baroque...) and impress with their size. This pearl is an oasis of peace, away from the hustle and bustle of the modern world.

Level of difficulty
28 km. After the road along the Sambre, a slope leads to the Château du Pavillon on the heights of Floriffoux. The course is also "muscular" towards the end, with two steep slopes.

At the Centre Sportif Floreffe, follow the Sambre to the bridge and cross it.
