Haut-Jura Regional Natural Park

The Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park is a French regional nature park, created on 10 February 1986 in the southwest of the Jura massif in France, adjacent to the Swiss border. With an area of almost 178,000 hectares, it comprises 122 affiliated municipalities and 4 gates outside the perimeter.

The Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park was created on 10 February 1986 and consisted of thirty-seven municipalities. The park expanded to one hundred and thirteen cities in 2005, with a total population of 71,000. Today, 122 municipalities adhere to the new charter that was validated in April 2012. It covers an area of almost 178,000 hectares spread over three departments: Ain, Doubs and Jura.

At the edge of the park's territory, gates are important urban centers whose density of urbanity does not allow classification as a regional park. Because of their influences, the exchanges and the working areas they represent and also because of the importance of the population groups involved, the daily life of these cities is connected to the park's territory. They therefore form gateways that also attach themselves to the Haut-Jura park. These cities are: Divonne-les-Bains, Gex, Bellegarde-sur-Valserine, the community of municipalities of Oyonnax, Ferney-Voltaire, Champagnole and Pontarlier (the last three have no territory in the perimeter of the park).

The park's head office is located in Lajoux. In addition to administrative functioning, the Park House is characterized by a "High Environmental Quality" (HQE) building that is open to the public all year round through various permanent and temporary exhibitions and cultural events or educational programs for school audience 1. The "Park House" "was built in 20062 by architects Tectonics and AAS Architectures Adelfo Scaranello. In the Doubs and Jura, the park borders the Jura Vaud Regional Nature Park in Switzerland.
