GR 131 Brugse Ommeland - Ieperboog

NL - De GR 131 start in het oude Zwinstadje Damme en loopt diagonaal door de provincie West-Vlaanderen naar de Ieperboog. Het pad verbindt de GR 5A in het noorden van de provincie met de GR 128 in het zuiden.

De route omvat 3 delen: het Brugse Ommeland, het Houtland, en de IJzervallei met de Ieperboog. In de eerste twee delen staan de bossen centraal, in het laatste deel het water. Het hele traject ademt een rijke en boeiende geschiedenis uit. Na Damme volgen de groengebieden elkaar in snel tempo op. Vanaf Koekelare eist de ‘Groote Oorlog’ dan alle aandacht op. Na Ieper is het nog een kleine stap naar het Provinciedomein De Palingbeek in Zillebeke: hier in het Molenbos sluit de GR 131 aan op de GR 128. Klik hier voor de topogids.

EN - GR 131 starts in the old city of Damme and runs diagonally through the province of West Flanders to the Ieperboog. The trail connects GR 5A in the north of the province with GR 128 in the south.

The trail comprises 3 sections: the Bruges Ommeland, the Woodland, and the Yser Valley with the Ypres Arch. In the first two sections, the forests take centre stage, in the last section the water. The whole route exudes a rich and fascinating history. After Damme, the green areas follow in quick succession. From Koekelare onwards, the 'Great War' then claims all the attention. After Ypres it's only a short step to the Provincial Domain De Palingbeek in Zillebeke: here in the Molenbos the GR 131 trail joins the GR 128 trail.
