Palafrugell és una vila i municipi de Catalunya situat a la comarca del Baix Empordà. Amb una població censada de 23.244 habitants és el municipi més poblat de la comarca. El terme municipal limita amb els de Mont-ras, Forallac, Torrent, Regencós i Begur. La vila de Palafrugell és el centre del municipi, on també hi ha els nuclis rurals de Santa Margarida i Ermedàs, el poble de Llofriu, a peus de les Gavarres, juntament amb els nuclis costaners de Calella, Llafranc, Tamariu i Aigua Xelida. D'aquesta manera, el municipi viu dividit entre el mar i l'interior, tot i que la importància del seu litoral ha condicionat el desenvolupament social i econòmic, transformant una vila tradicionalment tapera, en un centre turístic i de serveis plenament consolidat.
