Résidence Palace 

Between Chaussée d’Etterbeek and Rue de la Loi is the Résidence Palace, which can be seen on your right: a complex of supremely luxurious apartments spread over five wings in Art Deco style. In the 1920s, this residential complex represented a response to the rising wage costs of domestic staff and the desire for modern comfort among the aristocracy and upper middle classes. It was thus an alternative to the traditional homes in the Leopold Quarter. There was valet parking, a catering service, a swimming pool and tennis courts, and the railway station was close by – in short, the residents led a pampered existence in their apartments which boasted every modern convenience, including state-of-the-art kitchen and bathroom. Even so, the Résidence Palace could not stem the urban exodus, and parts of it were soon converted into offices. Only very recently was one of its wings renovated and converted into luxury studios.
