Built of freestone and limestone between 1818 and 1820, the façade of the theatre is solid at ground floor level, has an upper storey full of French windows, and an elegant 1930 pediment.
It is a proscenium-arch theatre, like that at Namur, with a horseshoe-shaped auditorium and a rectangular stage.
A chandelier hangs from the low cupola, with its fine painting from 1903, showing the pantheon of music: Apollo, the muses, and some famous musicians, including a native of Liège, Grétry, whose statue stands in front of the theatre.
