This synagogue is the oldest in Belgium. It was inaugurated in 1865 and its construction is explained by the presence of a Jewish community coming from French Lorraine.
The style of the edifice is of Romanesque-Byzantine inspiration. The façade has an orientalist appearance. On the side wall two twinned openings will be noted that take on the motif of the Tablets of the Law.
In the interior, the apse houses a Neo-Classical tabernacle containing the arc and the rolls of the Torah.
Transformed into a storage area for fodder during World War II, the building fortunately escaped destruction and has been classified as a historical monument.
