Play forest

The Vaag forest complex is 9 hectares in size and has been known for years as a play and walking forest. It is owned by the municipality of Waasmunster and managed by Natuurpunt. The forest is located between the Oudeheerweg-Heide, the E17 and the Baudelodreef. The whole is a combination of meadow, deciduous forest, heath and pine forest. The municipality wanted to protect this beautiful area and put a stop to the overgrowth of exotic plant species such as the American bird cherry. The municipality also wanted to create more opportunities for walking and playing. After all, local youth associations were asking for more leeway. The municipality of Waasmunster and the Regional Landscape restored the original heathland. The site was closed off with folding gates and sheep will occasionally graze the site periodically.

Part of the site was set up as a playground. A fire pit was laid out and a number of pedunculate oaks were planted.

At the 'fire pit', youth movements can safely hold a campfire. It is a circular place surrounded by a wall of sand and large natural stones.
