Station Lede

In 1852, J.A. De Mot and J.B. Gendebien acquired a concession for the construction of a railway line from Brussels to Ath via Denderleeuw. In Denderleeuw the railway line would then branch off to Schellebelle and Dendermonde. The company they founded was called Société anonyme du chemin de fer de Dendre-et-Waes et de Bruxelles vers Gand, par Alost. The State would operate the line. The stations on the line were all designed by the famous architect Jean-Pierre Cluysenaar. He divided his stations into three types: the simple stops, the stations de campagne and stations de ville. On 1 May 1856 a station building of the station de campagne type was erected in Lede. The style movement was Flemish neo-Renaissance. In contrast to the other stations on the line, the station building in Lede was symmetrical in structure: it consisted of one high central section flanked by two lower side wings.
