St. Peter's Church Rosmeer

Source: Stichting Open Kerken

Rosmeer is an old parish, but how far back its history goes is unprecedented. The earliest written document about the parish is a charter of Henry II, bishop of Liège, from 1148. The tower of the church probably dates from the 12th century. It probably first served as a defensive tower. In the tower is the tombstone of the de la Brassinne family. During the restoration in 2010, a tomb was also found.

The rest of the church is much more recent. After the First World War, the church at the time became too small because the population continued to grow. In the early 30s it was decided to build a larger church.

In 2004, the transept received two new stained glass windows. One window shows Saint Peter, the patron saint of the parish. On the south side is the stained glass window in honor of Saint Bertilia. You will recognize the elements from her life and from her pilgrimage in Rosmeer: the water, the wipes on the water, the staff, the child's head, the Bertiliaputje...

The baptismal font consists of a late Gothic tub with 4 heads and a late Romanesque pedestal. The four heads refer to the four cardinal points. They represent the four streams that sprang up in the earthly paradise and made the world fertile.
