Situated in the heart of Mons and named for its owner, local lawyer, book and coin collector, Léon Losseau, the Maison Losseau is an 18th-century house which was remodelled in the Art Nouveau style shortly before 1914. Each of its rooms is devoted to a flower - thistle, iris, orchid, magnolia, rose - which provides the theme for decorative motifs on different materials. These include wood panelling, plasterworkor stencilling on the walls or ceilings, parquet or mosaic on the floors, wooden inlay in the furniture,stained glass in the doors and windows, and bronze, copper or brass appliqué work for the light fittings and door handles. The house combines the latest technical processes of the time with very subtle artistic detail
