In the subsoil of the municipality of Lierneux there is a very unique type of stone: the coticule. This stone was formed half a billion years ago. It used to be called a "shaving stone". Indeed, this stone is ideal for sharpening razor blades. At the beginning of the 20th century, this stone was exploited in more than 22 quarries. Today, only one workshop is still active. Taken over by the Burton family in 1830, it was a real treasure and the most important industrial activity in the area. Since 1998, the name has been Ardenne-cuticule SA.
