The Laak ValleysIn Laakdal we find three streams with the name Laak: Grote Laak, Kleine Laak and Rode Laak. It is in these valleys that one can still find natural biotopes.
The areas that are managed here by Natuurpunt Grote Nete are situated in and along these valleys.
Grote Laak, Trichelbroek, Varendonk and De Roost
Kleine Laak Craeywinckel and 't Hoeves, Ossebroeken, Eindhoutberg and Eindhoutbroek
The streams meander from east to west through the landscape, which here is determined by the weathering of the Diestian substrate. Veerle, Vorst and Eindhout are located quite high on or along Diestiaangetuigen hills. The rivers have filled their valleys with alluvial material and peat between the remnants of the hills. These alluvial zones range from almost non-existent to 200 meters wide, they are very flat and swampy. It is an iron-rich, relatively fertile soil.
