Mechelen-Terneuzen railway line

On 30 November 1870, the first train ran on the Mechelen-Terneuzen railway. Actually, that line is largely due to Gustave Eiffel, the father of the Eiffel Tower. After all, he designed the all-iron bridge over the Scheldt in Temse, which was located on the route of the railway. For some time now, cyclists and walkers have been able to enjoy the path that has now been built in the railway bed. It leads along beautiful nature, of which the Poaching Forest is the main component. This almost 500-hectare forest owes its name to nocturnal activities near the border, but used to be part of the Koningsforeest, in which the counts of Flanders came to hunt.
