Description by the author

The geographical location of Raeren is determined by the Hertogenwoud in the south-east of the municipality's territory. The Hertogenwoud itself forms the northeastern boundary of the protected nature reserve, the "High Fens".

Also on the territory of the municipality of Raeren we find parts of this unique elevated bog area for Europe. Geologically, the villages of Hauset and Eynatten belong to the "Pays de Herve" and we should rather welcome Raeren under the "Massif des Ardennes".

The meadow landscape between the different villages is characterized by hedgerows and streams Iter, Periol and Göhl, which wind through the landscape. Especially in Raeren you can still clearly see the old structure with the hamlets of the vast village with its scattered dwelling. Between the former settlements, there are many well-maintained walking trails, which offer a quick and easy walking connection. These country roads are used today as hiking trails. The connecting roads are mostly built, but in many places they offer a beautiful view of the landscape of rolling and rolling meadows behind. Source: www.raeren.be

Every year, during the second weekend of September, the largest ceramic market in the EU region takes place at the castle, which is also the Töpfereimuseum.

The castle, the Zahle Pohl house and the area up to Mühlenstraße belong to the Born region; it formed the origin of Raeren, in fact "Alt Raeren". Out of a total of 28 potters who lived here, 10 lived in Born alone at the time of the pottery boom.

Start and finish: Parkplatz, Burgstrasse, 105, B-4730 RAEREN

Reported: standing yellow bars

Public transport: Welckenraedt or Eupen SNCB station (direct line Ostend-Eupen) and from there with a TEC bus line to RAEREN
