The Odense Canal connects the port of Odense with the Odense Fjord. On the banks of the canal is the combined heat and power plant Fynsværket. Between the canal and the Odense Fjord lies the island of Stige Ø, a recreation area created on a former landfill.
The canal and parts of the port were built between 1796 and 1806. Part of the original harbour lies in the area of the drained Næsbyhoved Sø. Both the canal and the harbour were later expanded. The canal has a depth of 7.5 m.
