At the top of the Kochersberg, you can see the tachygraph of Chappe. This tower allowed to “transmit” codes by means of the position of the beams.  Between 1794 and 1797, this semaphore tower was built. It was the second relay (after Dingsheim), of the optical telegraph line from Strasbourg to Paris via Saverne. It was used until 1852. What you see now is a motionless memorial made in the 20th century which can still be seen from ten kilometers away.
