The Regional Natural Park of the Marshes of Cotentin and Bessin is one of the 51 regional natural parks of France, a protected natural area located in the French department of Manche.
The marshes of Cotentin were conditioned in the sixteenth century thanks to the strenuous sanitation works directed by the Marshal of Bellefonds. These works consisted of the construction of gates or shutters that can be opened or closed at will to enter or exit the water, and a system of trenches, which allowed the grazing of animals. In this way the fertile meadows are accessible for nine months per year.
