This cobbled, rural road is part of the connecting road Dendermonde-Oudenaarde and is commonly referred to as 'the Flying Square'. During World War I, the Germans established an airfield here. The grounds served in World War II as a base against the expected Allied troops and as a refuge for aircraft in distress. Now, only a few wall remnants testify to that turbulent time.
