The Prins Willem-Alexander Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge over the Waal between Echteld and Wamel / Beneden-Leeuwen at Rkm 910.8. The N323 connects the Land of Maas and Waal with the A15 and the Betuwe. The bridge was operated as a toll bridge until the beginning of 1996 in order to recoup the construction costs. The bridge was built to make the Land of Maas and Waal more accessible and to generate more income for the entrepreneurs in Tiel. Due to the increasing shipping on the Waal, it became increasingly difficult to use ferries, which was reason enough to opt for a bridge.
