Reformed Church

The Reformed Church of Oosterzee is a neoclassical church building at Buren 29 in the Frisian town of Oosterzee.
The reformed church of Oosterzee was built in 1860 as a replacement for a church from the 12th or 13th century. The church stands on the east side of the village in a cemetery slightly higher than the surrounding area, which is bordered on three sides by ditches. At the front there is an entrance gate made of wrought and cast iron, the fence posts of which are decorated with pine cones. The façade of the church has a distinctive neoclassical shape, with four pilasters, a capital and crowned with a pediment with a semicircular window. The entrance door is surrounded by two pilasters surmounted by a pediment. Above the door a round window. On either side of the door are two pointed arched windows. All windows have a mould iron tracery. To the right above the pediment of the façade is a bell tower with pointed arched reverberation holes. In the tower hangs a bell, which was cast in 1498 by Gerardus van Wou. The clock in the tower dates from 1602. The year of construction of the church, 1860, is inscribed on the dials. The tower is crowned with an octagonal, openwork wooden dome on eight columns.
