The Tacitus Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge that was built from 2011 to 2013 next to the existing four-rope bridge near Ewijk. Together, they form the riverbank connection through which the A50 motorway crosses the river Waal. The bridge is located between the Ewijk junction and the Valburg junction. At the beginning of 2000, the old cable-stayed bridge over the Waal was so worn out by the heavy traffic load of the A50 that a renovation was deemed necessary. The capacity of the bridge was also too low. For years, the old bridge was high in traffic jams. Therefore, it was decided to build a new bridge next to the old bridge and to renovate the old bridge. Construction of the new bridge started in January 2011. On March 28, 2013, the new bridge was officially a fact, the bridge was opened to traffic on May 21 of that year.
