Mastbos is a forest area of about 570 hectares south of the Dutch city of Breda in North Brabant.
The name Mastbos is synonymous with Bos van pijnbomen. At the beginning of the 16th century, conifers were imported from Germany. The Mastbos near Breda was the first large forest with conifers of various species in the Netherlands. Over the centuries, the wood from the trees was used to make support piles for mining in Limburg and ship masts for the Dutch East India Company and the Spanish fleet. It was also used for the expansion of the Kasteel van Breda. Because of the large number of Scots pines, which are called "Mastenhout" in North Brabant, the forest was called Mastbos.
