There are plenty of deserted paths in the autumn and that is remarkable because National Park Zuid-Kennemerland is sandwiched between the stone of Haarlem, IJmuiden, Zandvoort and Bloemendaal, among others. Only the west side of the nature reserve is undeveloped, because there lies the sea with that always endless horizon. With the words "on weekends it can be very busy here on beautiful days", Natuurmonumentenboswachter Jowien van der Vegte tempers the euphoria about the deserted paths. "About 1.8 million people visit the national park every year."
