The Wapenplaats is a small fort of 0.8 hectares on the Zuiderlingedijk. Around the Wapenplaats is an earthen rampart and it is largely surrounded by a fort moat. The public road runs right through the fort. On the south side of the fort, the fort has been breached for this, this is called a denomination.
To the north of the fort there is a rare double 'fan lock' in the dike. The lock is part of the Lingesluizen complex.
The only stone building on the fort dates from the mobilization period 1939-40: a group shelter of reinforced concrete. Eleven men were able to take shelter from hostile fire. On the fort site there is also a so-called Nissenhut from 1950. This elongated shed with semicircular corrugated iron roof is an invention from the First World War by the Canadian military Nissen. For a while, these structures were very popular, also for non-military applications: they appeared everywhere and nowhere.
The Wapenplaats served to defend the lock, the Linge and the Zuiderlingedijk.
There are plans for redevelopment and opening of the fort.
