Arches National Park is a National Park in eastern Utah, USA. The park is located on the Colorado River 6 km North of the city of Moab. It is known for preserving over 2000 natural sandstone arches, including the world-famous Delicate Arch, Double O Arch, Landscape Arch, Wall Arch ... in addition to a variety of unique geological resources and formations.
To count as 'Arches' (natural arch) are drawn even official rules by the government. To count the hole in the rocks must be at least one meter wide, horizontally and vertically. Long time climbers could climb on the bows and arches, which sometimes provided an irreparable damage.
In 1929 Arches National Park was declared as a National Monument, at least a small part of the area. In 1938, President Franklin D. Roosevelt increased the area and opened it for the first time to the public. On November 12, 1971 under President Nixon it became a National Park. The total area was again made a lot smaller, but it made stricter protection possible.
One of the most beautiful trails in Arches National Park is the Devil's Garden trail.
