On a roundabout in Poelkapelle, the monument stands out in memory of the French fighter pilot Georges Guynemer who disappeared without a trace above that place on 11 September 1917. On top of the structure is a stylized stork. Guynemer was part of the Escadrille des Cigognes (storks).
