A Pescadería Square (praza da Pescadería), located in the fishermen's district of A Tenencia, retains its name from its original activity.
Until the late nineteenth century this space was an inlet in the estuary. Here there was a small sandy area where fishermen, with small rowing boats would sell their catch after long working days.
Between 1880-1890 in order to gain space from the sea, the first "filler" works were carried out and this included this area since then, also known as the O Recheo Square.
The fountain still remains from its original structure, although it has undergone modifications, it is still remembered as a meeting point between those who came to fetch water for domestic use.
At one end of the square, bordering the O Porto Avenue you will also find the building of Sada's Juvenile Information Office, a 50's building (20th century) in which you will notice the clear influence of medieval defensive architecture.
Continue discovering the A Tenencia district, or follow the route along the promenade where you can spot seabirds, walk through the Walk of Fame and discover endless ways to enjoy the Sea of Sada.
