Black Rock Harbor Light, also known as Fayerweather Island Light, is a lighthouse in Bridgeport, Connecticut, United States, on the south end of Fayerweather Island, that marks the entrance to Black Rock Harbor. In 1807, the United States government purchased 9.5 acres (3.8 ha) of land to construct a lighthouse. The government appropriated $5000 for the construction and contracted Abisha Woodward to build the light. Woodward constructed a wooden tower that was lit and made operational by October 1808. On September 3, 1821, a storm destroyed the tower and a stone lighthouse was erected in 1823. The light was an active aid until 1933 when it was replaced by two offshore automatic lights. It was given to the City of Bridgeport in 1934. A restoration effort was carried out in 1983 by the Bridgeport Environmental Protection Agency along with Friends of Seaside Park. The second restoration in 1998 was more substantial and included the use of graffiti-resistant paint. In 2000, the light was relit as a non-navigational aid. The lighthouse is listed as a contributing property for Bridgeport's Seaside Park historical district.
