Sunday 11th March - McCann Cup Seskinore This coming Sunday 11th March, Omagh Wheelers promote their premier annual event the McCann Cup. Celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2012, the race has become one of the most prestigious races in the west of the province, and over two hundred riders are expected this year in what is set to be the biggest running to date. Races will cater for all senior and junior riders including Women, Over 50’s, and A1/2/3/4. Pre-entry is currently available online at www.omaghwheelers.com, using the ‘Event Sign on’ tab, and spaces are filling fast! Race headquarters and sign-on will take place at the Halfway House on the Tattyreagh road between Omagh and Fintona. The event will consist of five races commencing with rounds of the Time Square Jewellers Gold Cup Masters, and SportActive Women’s Series which will be separate races. Sign-on will be at 10am with races starting at 11am. Both races will cover 3 laps of the 9.5mile course. There are still spaces available in both races and riders are encouraged to enter online asap to assist with administration on race-day, and to ensure a ride in your race. Riders can enter on the day providing there are spaces remaining in the race. Next up will be the A1/2 race which will be handicapped and will start at 1pm. This race will cover 7 laps or approx 67miles. There are still spaces available for this race, and riders are encouraged to enter online to ensure a ride. However, entries will be accepted on race day providing spaces are remaining. Along with the Wallace Caldwell on Saturday, this will be a perfect opportunity for riders preparing for easter stage races. Shortly afterwards, the separate A3 race will set off and will cover 6 laps or approx 57miles. Finally, the A4 race will start at approx 1:10pm and will cover 4laps or approx 36miles. Both A3 & A4 races are over-subscribed currently and those riders entered on the waiting list will be notified via email if they will be able to race. A1/2/3/4 riders are asked to take care and avoid blocking the road or warming up whilst earlier races are still ongoing. Thanks to race sponsors Hugh McCann Building & Maintenance Contractor, the prize money has been increased to over £1000 in 2012, making it the biggest prize list in the events history. The A3 race will also include a prize for 1st unplaced Junior to help make things more interesting. Omagh Wheelers will once again ensure a great spread of food and refreshments afterwards to thank all who support the event.
