Histoire de Wépion : les débuts - un cimetière gallo-romain
Dans la petite vitrine, quelques vestiges de poterie en céramique proviennent d’un cimetière gallo-romain, découvert en 1954, à quelques centaines de pas d’ici, dans un verger de pommiers. Dans ce lieu-dit « trieu Colin », la Société Archéologique de Namur réalisa pendant cinq ans des fouilles qui mirent à jour 39 tombes datant du 1er s. après J-C. Ces tombes contenaient les cendres de défunts et des ustensiles ménagers d’une petite population rurale habitant les contreforts de la Meuse, à l’abri des inondations. Les plus belles pièces exhumées sont exposées au Musée Archéologique de Namur.
