Durant la Première Guerre mondiale se dressait à cet endroit l’église du petit hameau d’Oud-Stuivekens. Le frère franciscain Edouard Lekeux avait installé un poste d’observation dans la tour de l’église qu’il a occupé durant 16 mois. En 1916, les troupes du génie belges avaient construit un poste d’observation et de mitrailleuses en béton entre les murs restants du clocher. Après la guerre, le frère Lekeux a érigé une chapelle commémorative en l’honneur de Notre-Dame de la Victoire qui l’aurait sauvé durant son séjour à Oud-Stuivekens.
